Best Canadian Potters on Instagram

If you are looking to add some clay inspiration to your feed, you need to follow these Canadian Potters on Instagram.

It is important to note, Canada is the land of traditional, unceded, unsurrendered territory of a vast number of Indigenous Peoples and Communities. I acknowledge the historical oppression of lands, cultures and original Peoples in what we know as Canada. Let us also acknowledge the priviledge to create art on these lands.

JAW Pottery

Instagram Handle: @jawpottery
Artist: Jessie A. Wright
Location: Halifax, Nova Scotia
Website: JAW Pottery

JAW Pottery, which is the initials of the makers name, creates stunning functional ceramics pieces that would complement any home. Her designs are a fusion of minimalism and contemporary design – with splashes of colour that makes you feel a connection with her brushwork.

One of my favourite aspects of her pieces is how her mug handles mirror the shape of the “J” in her logo. This is such a subtle and brilliant touch.

Heasman Ceramics

Instagram Handle: @heasmanceramics
Artist: Rebecca Heasman
Location: Prince Edward County, Ontario
Website: Heasman Ceramics

Made by Rebecca Heasman, Heasman ceramics offer such a wide assortment of forms, glaze and design, that her account is never boring. She brings a sense of play to Canadian Pottery while also showcasing her amazing making skills on and off the wheel.

Her signature ceramic watering can is a must see on her instagram.

Lollipots

Again, bringing the fun to Canadian Pottery, Lollipot’s Instagram features stunning, bold and trendy ceramics for your home. Her ashtrays are a brilliant take on traditional design with a modern and bright twist. The designs, colour schemes and photography are a feast for the eyes.

Lollipot’s vases, featuring gorgeous contrasts of colour and texture, show Walker’s ability to create stunning pieces through hand-building techniques.

Dauma Ceramics

Instagram Handle: @daumaceramics
Artist: Daumante (Dauma) Stirbyte
Location: London, Ontario
Website: DaumaCeramics

Daumante Stirbyte’s (aka Dauma) social media might just be my favorite Instagram account on the list. The reason for this is that in addition to her sculptural pieces being absolutely unbelievable, you also see her journey through the making process to create them and some playful moments with her cat, Rae.

You can really get a sense of who she is from her Instagram presence, connecting her to these lively, playful and fantastical figures that she sculpts.

Her work can also be found at the Gardiner Museum. Check out her Instagram for other upcoming Canadian Shows where you can see her work in person.

While Esme Qi Lei, the maker behind Common Goods Pottery, creates amazing work in her studio in Toronto, she is also not shy about sharing her knowledge with her large following.

Pansyassceramics

Instagram Handle: @pansyassceramics
Artist: Andy Walker & Kris Aaron
Location: Toronto, Ontario

This is not your average pottery Instagram account. If you want to follow this account, you’ll have to request to follow because it’s private for a reason.

Pansy Ass Ceramics pairs raw, sexual energy with traditional floral decals, creating a playful juxtaposition on classic ceramic sculpture. The subject matter of Kris and Andrew’s works, the co-founders of Pansy Ass Ceramics, are porcelain slip-cast sculptures conveying, sex, love and intimacy in a way that is not often portrayed in art.

Pansy Ass Ceramics is a refreshing take on traditional porcelain sculpture that is worth waiting for your follow request approval.
